Sudden
Jan 16, 2021
Childhood is a magical thing until you grow up and realize
it isn’t an ocean but a tiny teardrop on a magnifying glass
When we left it, the tides were still turning
White hyacinths left unplucked
Then time morphed into a monarch
right in front of us
Tell me which one was heavier
The backpack filled with textbooks
Or the berating words your father spoke to you
Some nights I still wake up thinking about how change
is so sudden
